Simba Chips is a beloved South African heritage brand dating back to 1957.
The Brief:
As part of a social media promotion to launch its new Simba Steakhouse Beef flavour, Simba wanted something engaging and tactical to coincide with Heritage Day, or as South Africans like to call it, ‘National Braai Day’.
The Challenge
Inspired by the classic ‘Where’s Wally’ books, a style known as Wimmelbilder, my task was to create an illustration bursting at the seams with South African gees and the spirit of National Braai Day while also incorporating Simba’s brand colours and, of course, packs of Simba Steakhouse Beef flavour. Renowned South African Chef Benny Masekwameng, mastermind behind the new flavour is also hidden inside the illustration.
My Role
I conceptualised this illustration from start to finish, designing characters and objects on an isometric grid, working with a creative director and client to sign off the work over multiple stages. I then finalised colour and lifework before handing the file over to an designer to incorporate into social media posts.
